Your hands are the most hardworking part of your body. They also get the maximum dust and sun exposure, and are the first to show the effects of a bad lifestyle. No wonder they respond by getting wrinkles. But there’s a way to slow down and even stop this change.
Wrinkles are a natural part of ageing. But admit it; the amount of time and effort you spend taking care of your face, you don’t do half of that for your hands. Did you know wrinkles form because of exposure to the sun and environmental pollutants? Even a bad lifestyle and neglect can cause hand wrinkles to form. While there’s no permanent solution, you can slow down the appearance of wrinkles on hands and protect them from ageing faster.
Don’t spend too much money on readymade cosmetic products that promise more and deliver less, instead read the following.
10 Easy Tips to Battle the Onset of Wrinkles
#1 Pamper your hands
Wrinkles appear most when your hands are rough and dry. Pamper them with liberal coats of a good quality moisturiser during the day. You can also massage your hands with an oil of your choice for an hour before your bath.
You can use a homemade scrub of gram flour (besan) and oil. Scrub vigorously but not too roughly. If you want, you can also use some of your face scrub on your hands.
#3 Protect from the sun
The UV rays of the sun can harm and prematurely age the skin on your hands. Make generous use of sunscreen whenever you step out. Try wearing gloves and avoid exposing your hands directly to the sun.
Before you head to bed, coat your hands with a good moisturiser like Olay Total Effects 7 in One Anti-ageing Night Cream and cover up with gloves. You can sleep with the gloves on or remove them after an hour or so to reveal super soft hands.
What does exercising have to do with wrinkles? Everything. When you exercise, you increase the blood flow to your hands. And the sweat expels toxins and makes your skin softer, and less prone to wrinkles.
#6 Change your soap
Chances are your soap is also a culprit. If you have a tendency to wash your hands a million times, use a soothing, moisturising soap at home. Better still, indulge in a natural, handmade product that doesn’t have any of the drying ingredients that other commercial soaps contain.
Here are a few home recipes that you can try to add the bounce back to your wrinkled hands:
Have an overripe banana in the refrigerator? Mash it to form a paste and smear it all over your hands. Keep rubbing it until it becomes dry and starts to fall off. Rinse your hands and you will notice the difference right away.
Rub freshly-cut slices of cucumber on parts that look wrinkled. Do this daily for a few weeks and you will see wrinkles lessening.
#9 Rice powder
Soak 2 teaspoons of rice powder in one teaspoon each of rose water and milk to make a paste. Cover your hands with this paste and let it dry. Wash it off with lukewarm water.
#10 Rub tomato juice
Mash a ripe tomato and rub the pulp and juice all over your hands. Let it dry naturally and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
